The Fort Dodge man accused of fatally stabbing his sister and nephew in Ames last month will face a competency hearing. On Thursday, the court temporarily suspended proceedings for a competency evaluation for 22-year-old Davontrez R. McCuddin who according to the court “is suffering from a mental disorder” which would impact the trial. It was on March 13th that the Ames Police Department responded to a residence in the 3900 block of Tripp Street on reports of a stabbing. Upon their arrival, officer located 26-year-old Markasia McCuddin and 1-year-old Liam Sanders-McCuddin both suffering from multiple stab wounds. Both died at the scene. Witnesses reported to authorities in a criminal complaint seeing Davontrez McCuddin, the brother of Markasia and the uncle to Liam, stabbing his sister multiple times. Records state officers followed a trail of blood to the third floor of the apartment complex, where they located McCuddin who was covered in blood. He was then arrested by Ames Police. McCuddin was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, a Class A Felony. McCuddin is in the Story County Jail ,where he is being held on a $3 million bond. McCuddin has previously been wanted by Fort Dodge Police in connection with a January 4th shooting where a man was shot multiple times.
