The Boone County Sheriff’s Department released details today (Wednesday) of an accident in the northern part of the county at 2:00 last Saturday afternoon,October 7. The accident report stated that an eastbound 2006 Dodge Caravan driven by 59-year-old Michael J. Batterson of Webster City was on 130th Avenue about a half mile west of Nature Road. The Batterson vehicle traversed a south curve to the north and then back to the east. Upon finishing the south curve, the Batterson vehicle was reportedly traveling too fast and lost control crossing the center line going into the north ditch. The van slid sideways entering the ditch eventually rolling over ejecting Batterson who was not buckled in according to the accident report. The van burst into flames as it came to rest. Batterson was pronounced dead at the accident scene.
