WEBSTER CITY, Ia. — The Webster City Lynx football team returned to the gridiron on Friday Night, as they hosted their longtime rivals in the Humboldt Wildcats in Class 3A, District 1 action at Lynx Field. Webster City entered Friday at 0-4, while Humboldt also entered at 0-4.
It would be a quiet first half on Friday, but just enough noise was made by the Lynx as their opening drive saw them march down and score with 2:15 to go in the first quarter on a Kaleb Hansen 2-yard touchdown run as Webster City led 7-0. That lead would hold throughout a defensively-driven 2nd quarter as the Lynx led 7-0 at halftime.
Webster City then struck to start the 2nd half as the Lynx marched down and scored on their 2nd, 2-yard touchdown run by Kaleb Hansen as the Lynx took a 14-0 lead with 7:13 to go in the 3rd quarter. Webster City’s defense would keep the Wildcats offense down the entire night, as the Lynx added one last score for emphasis on a 6-yard touchdown run by Coyce Bertran with 2:07 to go in the game to put the Lynx up 21-0. Humboldt would score a touchdown in the final seconds on a 44-yard touchdown pass from Noah Elman to Dawson Sleiter, as Webster City picked up their first win of the season by a 21-7 final.
