WATCH – Highlights from Roland-Story’s 42-7 win over Vinton-Shellsburg
STORY CITY, Ia. –The Roland-Story Norsemen football team returned to the field on Friday Night, as they hosted the Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings in Class 2A, District 4 action, for homecoming night at Kerry Van Winkle Field. Roland-Story entered at 3-1 and ranked #2 in Class 2A, while Vinton-Shellsburg entered at 2-2.
Roland-Story took the football first on Friday, and with a short field would score on a 4th down touchdown pass from Colin Willis to Luke Thoreson from 13 yards out to put the Norsemen up 7-0. Following a Vinton-Shellsburg turnover on downs, the Norsemen used another short field to score on a 1-yard touchdown run by Fiston Carlson to put the Norse ahead 14-0 early in the 2nd quarter. Cooper Triggs would pick off a Vikings pass later in the 2nd quarter, as Fiston Carlson then scored from 2 yards at as the Norsemen led grew to 21-0. Vinton-Shellsburg would get on the board with a 63-yard touchdown pass from Landry Mouton to Colson Chvala to bring the score to 21-7, but Roland-Story would mount a drive to end the first half, capped by a 2-yard touchdown pass from Colin Willis to Luke Thoreson to give the Norse a 28-7 halftime lead.
After stopping Vinton-Shellsburg on the opening drive of the 2nd half, Roland-Story marched down again and scored on a 1-yard touchdown run by Sam Scarrow to give the Norse a 35-7 lead. Midway through the 4th quarter, Roland-Story put the finishing touches on a dominant performance with a Fiston Carlson 60-yard touchdown run as Roland-Story picked up a dominant win on homecoming by a final of 42-7.

The Ace of the Game, presented by Ace Hardware of Webster City, was Norsemen senior Luke Thoreson, who caught 6 passes for 121 yards and 2 touchdowns. Colin Willis was 16-for-26 for 213 yards and 2 touchdowns, as Fiston Carlson carried 13 times for 109 yards and 3 touchdowns. Senior Tyler Lambert had a big game defensively, recording 9 tackles, 3 TFL and 2 sacks.
