MONROE, Ia. — The Roland-Story Norse and South Hamilton Hawks volleyball teams returned to action on Thursday night, as they made the drive into Jasper County to take on the PCM Mustangs in a Heart of Iowa Conference tri match at PCM High School. Roland-Story entered at 10-1 and ranked #10 in Class 3A, South Hamilton entered at 8-8, while PCM entered at 5-6.
South Hamilton would win their opening match over PCM 2-0 with sets of 25-20 and 25-15. The Hawks got 10 kills from Tessa Skartvedt, while Adelyn Trask added 8 kills in the contest, as South Hamilton then faced off with their rivals in Roland-Story.
The 9th-ranked Norse dominated the opening set 25-9, before South Hamilton found their footing and downed the Norse in the 2nd set by a score of 25-23. Set 3 would be back-and-forth, as the Hawks led past the halfway point, but Roland-Story rallied to take the set 15-11 and win 2-1. Brookelyn Jondle led the Norse with 13 kills, as Maddi Lucas added 12 kills, Tessa Skartvedt led South Hamilton with 6 kills, as Emma Lammers added 3 aces.
Roland-Story then made quick work of PCM 2-0 with sets of 25-10 and 25-18. Brookelyn Jondle tallied 12 kills in the match, as Charlotte Schaben and Kody McKay each added 3 kills.
The Aces of the Game, sponsored by Ace Hardware of Webster City, were South Hamilton senior Tessa Skartvedt and Roland-Story senior Brookelyn Jondle. Skartvedt combined for 16 kills in the Hawks 2 matches, while Jondle combined for 25 kills in the Norse’s two matches.
Roland-Story volleyball returns to action on Saturday, when they compete in the Aplington-Parkersburg Tournament in Parkersburg, beginning at 9 AM. South Hamilton volleyball returns to action this coming Thursday, when they host Grand View Christian and Greene County for a HOIAC tri at South Hamilton High School, beginning at 5 PM on 95.7 KQWC or online at kqradio.com.
