WAVERLY, Ia. — The Webster City Lynx cross country team returned to action 0n Tuesday night, as they made the trip east into the Cedar Valley to compete in the annual Dick Pollitt Go-Hawk Classic at the Max Championship Cross Country Course in Waverly. The Lynx were joined by the host Go-Hawks, as well as Clarksville, Colo-NESCO, Columbus Catholic, Crestwood, Denver, Gladbrook-Reinbeck, Grundy Center, Hudson, Independence, Iowa Falls-Alden, Janesville, Marion, Mason City, Nashua-Plainfield, New Hampton, Osage, Riceville, Tripoli, Turkey Valley, Wapsie Valley, Waukon and West Delaware.
Webster City’s girls would place 11th with a total of 278 points, as senior Izzy Grossoehme collected a top 5 finish, placing 5th in a time of 20:34, as 8th-Grader Lyla Brookshire placed 59th in a time of 23:53.9. Rubi Andrade-Murillo placed 89th, Marlene Saavendra-Mendoza placed 99th and Hayden Soesbee placed 100th to round out varsity scoring.
In the boys race, Webster City would place 8th with a total of 236 points, as junior Daniel Murillo-Delfin placed 32nd in a time of 18:18.7, as sophomore Aiden Wardell was 39th in 18:36.8. Junior Kaleb Draeger placed 61st, junior Jordan Betts was 74th and junior Grayson Henderson rounded out scoring in 93rd.
Webster City cross country returns to action on Monday, when they travel to Huxley to compete in the Mike Carr Invitational at Ballard Golf and Country Club, beginning at 5 PM.
