Know The Foe Week 2: Webster City at Fort Dodge

FORT DODGE, Ia. — The Webster City Lynx football team returns to the gridiron on Friday Night, as they make the short drive west on Highway 20 to take on the Fort Dodge Dodgers in non-district action at Dodger Stadium. Webster City enters with a record of 0-1, while Fort Dodge enters with a record of 1-0. Fort Dodge leads the all-time series 7-26-1, with the Dodgers winning last year’s meeting in Webster City 7-6.

Fort Dodge enters Friday off a convincing 36-6 victory over longtime rivals Mason City. The Dodgers offense is commanded by 3rd-year starting quarterback Tru McBride, who threw for 243 yards and 2 touchdowns, while rushing for 2 more touchdowns on Friday night. Joining him in the backfield is fellow senior running back Will McElroy, who rushed for 127 yards and a touchdown, while also recording a receiving touchdown on Friday, as McElroy provides a bellcow option in the running game. The Dodgers passing attack showcases many different athletes, as junior Spencer Smith had a 45-yard touchdown reception on Friday, while sophomore Mason Hughes had 2 catches for 76 yards. The offensive line for the Dodgers is anchored by two 6-5 tackles in juniors Brody Maehl and Coy Nichols.

Defensively, the Dodgers strength is in the front seven, as senior Jayon Preston-Grady led the defense with 9 tackles from the defensive line on Friday, while fellow defensive lineman Luke Beckley tallied 2 sacks against the Riverhawks.
