EAGLE GROVE, Ia. — The Eagle Grove Eagles football team opened their 2026 season on Friday night, as they hosted the Lake Mills Bulldogs in non-district action at Gene Hinrichsen Field in Eagle Grove.
Lake Mills started with the football, but would turn it over on an interception by Arturo Reyna Salazar to give the Eagles the football. Eagle Grove would then score on their opening drive on a 36-yard touchdown run by Kylar Sisson to put the Eagles ahead 8-0. The Bulldogs would turn it over on their ensuing possession on a Gavin Pedersen interception, before scoring on the very next play as Trenton Robinson rumbled 25 yards for a touchdown to put the Eagles ahead 16-0. Gavin Pedersen then recorded his 2nd interception of the day on the ensuing defensive drive, as Adrian Whipple would break free for a highlight reel 55-yard touchdown run on a scramble as Eagle Grove took a 24-0 lead, before Pedersen’s third interception of the half gave the Eagles the ball back, scoring on a 29-yard touchdown pass from Whipple to Pedersen as the Eagles took a 32-0 lead. Following a Lake Mills punt, Eagle Grove would drive down and score on a 29-yard touchdown run by Adrian Whipple to go ahead 40-0, before scoring one more time on another highlight reel touchdown run by Adrian Whipple on a 43-yard run to give Eagle Grove a 46-0 lead at halftime.
Eagle Grove scored on their opening drive of the 2nd half on a 10-yard touchdown run from Trenton Robinson to give the Eagles a 54-0 lead, as Lake Mills punted the football back on their opening possession, with Eagle Grove cashing in on a 16-yard touchdown run by Keegan Eisentrager to put the Eagles ahead 60-0. Eagle Grove would score two more garbage time touchdowns from Colson Schafer and Aaron Alaniz, as Lake Mills would get on the board in the 2nd half as Eagle Grove capped a 76-7 thrashing.
Adrian Whipple would go 1-for-2 for 29 yards and a touchdown, while rushing for 137 yards and 3 touchdowns on 8 carries. Trenton Robinson had 9 carries for 83 yards and 2 touchdowns, as Gavin Pedersen had a 29-yard touchdown catch and 3 interceptions defensively.
