BONDURANT, Ia. — The Roland-Story Norsemen volleyball team returned to the court on Saturday morning, as they competed in the Skip Anderson Classic at Bondurant-Farrar High School. The 9th-ranked Norsemen were joined by the host Bluejays, as well as Ames, (1A) #11 BCLUW, Bondurant-Farrar, Carlisle, Des Moines Roosevelt, Gilbert, (3A) #12 Knoxville, (2A) #13 Lake Mills, Nevada, (4A) #11 North Polk, (1A) #10 North Tama, (4A) #10 Pella, Urbandale, (3A) #15 Van Meter and Winterset.
Roland-Story opened the day with a 2-0 sweep of 5A-Urbandale by sets of 21-8 and 21-13, with Brookelyn Jondle leading with 8 kills, while Charlotte Schaben and Maddi Lucas added 4 kills each. The Norsemen then stormed past (1A) #11 BCLUW 2-0 with sets of 21-17 and 21-17, as Brookelyn Jondle totaled 11 kills and and ace, while Maddi Lucas had 10 kills and a block.
The challenges then stepped up for the Norse, as they downed 4A Winterset in the next game by a 2-1 margin with sets of 21-12, 18-21 and 15-12 over the Huskies. Brookelyn Jondle led the Norse with 8 kills and 2 blocks, while Maddi Lucas added 7 kills and 2 blocks. Roland-Story then outlasted an unbeaten (3A) #15 Van Meter team 2-1 with sets of 21-13, 19-21 and 15-10. Maddi Lucas was the top attacker in the match with 8 kills and 2 blocks, while Miley Geise had 4 kills, 22 assists and 4 aces.
In the Championship pool, Roland-Story would lose their first match of the year to the hosts in Bondurant Farrar 2-1 with sets of 21-18, 18-21 and 10-15. Brookelyn Jondle put together a monster match with 16 kills, as Maddi Lucas added 4 kills and 2 blocks. Roland-Story then capped the day with a 2-1 victory over (3A) #12 Knoxville with sets of 21-19, 18-21 and 15-13. Brookelyn Jondle led the Norsemen with 10 kills, while Miley Geise added 5 kills, 19 assists and an ace, as Roland-Story would finish runner-up in the tournament.
Roland-Story volleyball is back in action on Thursday, when they compete in a tri-match with Greene County and Ames at Greene County High School, beginning at 5 PM.
