Clarion-Goldfield-Dows, South Hamilton, Eagle Grove volleyball all compete in CGD Tournament on Saturday

CLARION, Ia. — The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowgirls, South Hamilton Hawks and Eagle Grove Eagles volleyball teams all returned to action on Saturday, as CGD hosted their annual tournament at Clarion-Goldfield-Dows High School. The Cowgirls, Hawks and Eagles were joined by Clear Lake, Nashua-Plainfield and North Butler.

CGD would go 4-1 on the day, opening with a 2-0 sweep of rivals Eagle Grove by sets of 21-8 and 21-16, before outlasting South Hamilton 2-1 with sets of 14-21, 21-12 and 15-13. The Cowgirls then took their only loss of the day to Clear Lake by a 2-0 final with sets of 13-21 and 12-21, before bouncing back against North Butler with a 2-0 sweep of North Butler with sets of 21-16 and 21-13. CGD wrapped up 2nd place in the tournament with a 2-0 sweep of Nashua-Plainfield by sets of 21-13 and 21-17.

South Hamilton would go 2-3 on the day, opening with a 2-0 loss to Clear Lake by sets of 17-21 and 16-21, before dropping a 3-set bout to CGD with sets of 21-14, 12-21 and 13-15. The Hawks then fell to North Butler in a 3-set affair 2-1 with sets of 21-17, 11-21 and 14-16, before getting in the win column over Eagle Grove with a 2-0 sweep with sets of 21-9 and 21-19. South Hamilton ended the day with a 2-0 sweep of Nashua-Plainfield with sets of 21-14 and 21-7.

Eagle Grove would finish the tournament 0-4 as they fell to CGD 2-0 with sets of 8-21 and 16-21 to start the day, before falling to Clear Lake 2-0 with sets of 10-21 and 8-21. The Eagles then fell to North Butler 12-21 and 13-21, before falling to South Hamilton 2-0 with sets of 9-21 and 19-21.

CGD volleyball returns to action on Thursday, when they travel to Fort Dodge to take on St. Edmond in North Central Conference action with first serve at 7 PM. South Hamilton volleyball returns to action on Saturday at the South Central Calhoun tournament, starting at 8 AM. Eagle Grove volleyball resumes play on Monday, as they host Paton-Churdan in non-conference action with first serve at 7 PM 0n 95.7 KQWC or streaming online at kqradio.com.
