MARSHALLTOWN, Ia. — The Webster City Lynx cross country teams opened their 2026 season on Thursday night, making the trip into Marshall County to compete in the Marshalltown Early Bird at Marshalltown Community College. The Lynx were joined by the host Bobcats, as well as Belle Plaine, Carlisle, Gladbrook-Reinbeck, Grundy Center, Newton, North Mahaska, Ottumwa, Pella Christian and South Tama County.
Webster City’s boys placed 5th with a total of 142 points, as junior Daniel Murillo-Delfin placed 17th with a time of 18:46.1, as sophomore Aiden Wardell was 21st in a time of 19:05.6. 8th Grader Max Barrick was 27th in 19:56, junior Jordan Betts was 37th in 20:50.5, as junior Grayson Henderson rounded out scoring in 40th with a time of 21:11.5.
The Lynx girls would place 8th with a total of 201 points, as senior Izzy Grossoehme place 17th in a time of 23:04.2, as 8th Grader Lyla Brookshire was 37th in a time of 25:25.7. Junior Rubi Andrade-Murillo was 47th in 27:08.4, freshman Quynn Pruismann was 49th in 27:28.4, as junior Haedyn Soesbe rounded out scoring in 51st with a time of 27:46.7.
Webster City cross country returns to action on Tuesday, when they host the Webster City Invitational at the Links Golf Course beginning at 5 PM.
