Jewell- A public hearing for the amending of the Jewell Fireworks ordinance was held at this week’s meeting of the Jewell City Council. The ban on fireworks in Jewell remains in effect except for the following specific dates and times. On July 3rd between the hours of 9 a.m. and 10 p.m. or 9 a.m. and 11 p.m. if July 3rd is a Saturday or Sunday. On July 4th between the hours of 9 a.m. and 11 p.m. From 9 a.m. on December 31st to 12:30 a.m. on January 1st. The motion to amend the fireworks ordinance was approved by the Jewell City Council last Monday evening.
Plans for the purchase of a fence for the pickle ball court from Menard’s was approved by the Jewell City Council. The supplies for the fence were estimated to be at $2,488. Work will begin in the next few weeks.
The Jewell City Council voted to adopt the Hamilton County Hazard Mitigation Plan. The property at 444 Collins in Jewell was discussed with the city going to work on getting estimates to determine how much it would cost to clean up the property.
The Jewell Public Works Department informed the Jewell City Council that road work seal coating on Second Street and East Lane will be pushed off until spring due to a lack of availability of contractors. Jewell Public Works director Terry Anderson reported to the council that the additional testing for public drinking water has been completed and received his distribution grade two certification.
Nick Frederickson of ISG was at this week’s meeting of the Jewell City Council to present the facility plan for wastewater system improvements. The council agreed to proceed with an intended Use Plan for Jewell’s North Lift Station, the Main Lift Station and the Lagoon.
