PELLA, Ia. — The Roland-Story Norsemen softball team returned to action on Saturday night, as they made the trip into Marion County to take on the Pella Christian Eagles in the Class 3A, Region 1 semifinals at Pella Christian High School. Roland-Story entered with a record of 23-8 and ranked #12, while Pella Christian entered at 17-10 and ranked #14.
Roland-Story wasted no time in letting the bats fly, scoring 2 runs in the 1st off a Miley Geise RBI single and a Cece Doyle RBI groundout to take a 2-0 lead. The Norsemen followed up with 5 runs in the 2nd off a passed ball, an Evelyn Carlson 3-run home run and a Miley Geise RBI single as Roland-Story went ahead 7-0. Scoring then ceased until the 6th inning, when the Norsemen scored a run on an error before PC got on the board off an error to make the score 8-1. Roland-Story then blew the lid off the game in the 7th with 5 more runs off an Evelyn Carlson 3-run home run and a Cece Doyle 2-run RBI single, as the Norsemen capped a 13-1 win.
Miley Geise was the winning pitcher, throwing the complete game and allowing 1 run (0 earned) on 5 hits and striking out 4. Evelyn Carlson put together a monster day, going 2-for-4 with 2 home runs and 6 RBI, while Miley Geise was 4-for-5 with a double and 2 RBI.
Roland-Story softball returns to action on Tuesday, when they travel to #1 Williamsburg for the Class 3A, Region 1 final, with first pitch at 7 PM on 95.7 KQWC or streaming online at kqradio.com.
