GILBERT, Ia. — The Webster City Lynx baseball team returned to action on Friday night, as they made the trip south into Story County to take on the Gilbert Tigers in the Class 3A, Substate 2 quarterfinals at Gilbert High School. Webster City entered with a record of 21-9, while Gilbert entered at 13-14.
Gilbert came out of the gates swinging, putting up 5 runs in the bottom of the first, before adding 4 more runs in the 2nd as the Tigers took a stunning 9-0 lead after 2 innings. That 9-0 score would last until the 5th, when the Tigers would bring home the game-ending run to take home a 10-0, 5-inning victory.
Matt Tesdahl took the loss on the bump, going 0.2 innings and allowing 4 runs (3 earned) in the outing. Braylon Dyvig, Gordon Bargfrede and Syrus Willard all recorded hits for the Lynx.
Gilbert advances to the Class 3A, Substate 2 semifinals, as they’ll take on #5 North Polk in Alleman with first pitch at 7 PM. Webster City’s season concludes with a record of 21-10.
