The lights have dimmed on Disney’s The Little Mermaid JR., the final production of Webster City Community Theatre’s past season. Now it’s time to raise the curtain on its lineup of shows coming in 2026-2027.
Auditions for Birthday Club The season opens September 18-20 and 25-27 with Birthday Club, a comedy by Phil Olson. Birthday Club is a fun-filled comedy where five girlfriends get together for their birthdays, each with their own story, to drink, celebrate, commiserate and support each other as they negotiate through marriage, work, divorce, birth and kids, while solving the problems of the world. According to director Mary Sealine, “Birthday Club is more than a play, it’s a party!”
Auditions will be held at WCCT, 1001 Willson Avenue, on Sunday, July 26, at 6 pm and Monday, July 27, at 7 pm. Scripts are now available for 3-day check-out at the Kendall Young Library. There are roles for five females. Sealine will be assisted by Abby Sharp. Audiences may recognize the playwright’s name. Phil Olson wrote the Don’t Hug Me series of musicals and several comedies WCCT has performed in the past. He visited Webster City several times while workshopping new plays. In fact, he zoomed with several online actresses during the pandemic when he was working on Birthday Club.
Watch Party for Come From Away
Come From Away by Irene Sankoff and David Hein will close the 2026-2027 season on June 3-6 and 10-13, 2027. This Broadway musical tells the true story of 9/11 when 38 trans-Atlantic flights landed in Gander, Newfoundland. 7,000 passengers from across the world spent five days as the guests of the people on that small Canadian island. The cast of twelve portrays over 40 characters: the folks of Gander and the “come from aways” on the planes. Director Loween Getter hopes audiences will recognize that, “It is the story of the best of humanity in the worst of times.”
To get familiar with the script, WCCT will hold a watch party at the theatre on Sunday, July 19, at 3 pm. Attendees who may be interested in auditioning, being part of the pit band, or are just curious, will watch the film of the Broadway cast performing Come From Away live. The viewing will last approximately 90 minutes. Popcorn will be available. Please bring your own beverage.
