Eagle Grove baseball’s season ends in substate loss to Forest City, 5-1

POCAHONTAS, Ia. — The Eagle Grove Eagles baseball team returned to action on Tuesday evening, as they made the trek west on Highway 3 to take on the Forest City Indians in Class 2A, Substate 2 quarterfinal action at the Pocahontas Athletic Complex. Eagle Grove entered with a record of 7-17, while Forest City entered at 17-5.

A scoreless first was then answered by a Forest City run off an error in the 2nd as the Indians took an initial 1-0 lead. Forest City then added 2 more runs in the 4th, before Eagle Grove put a run up in the 5th on an error to cut the score to 3-1. Forest City would then answer with two more runs in the bottom of the 5th, as the Indians would hold off the Eagles for a 5-1 victory.

Gavin Pedersen was the losing pitcher, despite pitching well, allowing 5 runs (2 earned) off 7 hits and striking out 3. Trenton Robinson record the lone Eagle Grove hit of the day, as Jace Olsen scored the only Eagles run.

Forest City advances to face Pocahontas Area in the Class 2A, Substate 2 semifinals on Saturday night with first pitch at 7 PM in Pocahontas. Eagle Grove’s season concludes with a record of 7-19.
