STORY CITY, Ia. — The Roland-Story Norsemen baseball team returned to action on Tuesday night, as they hosted the Greene County Rams in the Class 2A, Substate 2 quarterfinals at Norsemen Field. Roland-Story entered at 34-3 and ranked #2 in Class 2A, while Greene County entered at 4-17.
A scoreless first inning gave way to a prosperous 2nd inning for the Norsemen, as they plated 5 runs off of a Braden Wallace RBI double, a Derek Acevedo RBI double, a Gavin Jeter RBI double, an Aiden Frey sac fly and a Cael Faber sac fly as Roland-Story led 5-0 after 2. The Norsemen added 2 runs in the 3rd on a Gavin Jeter 2-run RBI single, before scoring a run on a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch to make the lead 8-0. Roland-Story would end things in the 5th with a Colin Willis 2-run RBI single to walk-off a 10-0, 5-inning victory.
Cael Faber was the winning pitcher in a historic performance, pitching a 5-inning perfect game, striking out 7 and not allowing a baserunner. Gavin Jeter would go 2-for-3 with a double and 3 RBI, while Colin Willis was 2-for-2 with a double and 2 RBI.
Greene County’s season ends with a record of 4-18. Roland-Story baseball advances to the Class 2A, Substate 2 semifinals on Saturday night, as they face the Ogden Bulldogs at Norsemen Field, with first pitch at 7 PM.
