WEBSTER CITY, Ia. — The Webster City Lynx softball team returned to action on Monday night, as they hosted the Southeast Valley Jaguars in non-conference action at Webster City High School. Webster City entered with a record of 10-15, while Southeast Valley entered at 12-12.
A scoreless first gave way to a run in the 2nd for Southeast Valley off an error, before the Jaguars added a run on a wild pitch in the 3rd to take a 2-0 lead. Webster City answered with 4 runs in the 3rd off an Alivia Burns RBI single, a Morgan Tempel RBI single, an error and a Morgan Hackbarth RBI double as the Lynx took a 4-2 lead. Southeast Valley put together a big 4th inning, where they scored 5 runs in the frame to take a 7-4 lead, as the Jaguars added 2 runs in the 5th to extend the lead to 9-4. Webster City would rally with 3 runs in the 5th on a Jakaela Cherry 2-run RBI triple and a Hayden McCoy RBI double to cut it to 9-7, before a Morgan Tempel 2-run home run in the 6th tied the game at 9-9. Southeast Valley took the lead off an error in the 7th at 10-9, before a Jakaela Cherry RBI double tied it in the bottom of the 7th, before a passed ball allowed Tessi Farley to score and walk-off an 11-10 victory.
Jakaela Cherry picked up the win despite a tough outing, allowing 10 runs (0 earned) off 10 hits and struck out 6, while also going 2-for-3 with a triple, double and 3 RBI, while Morgan Tempel was 2-for-4 with a 2-run home run and 3 runs scored.
Webster City softball returns to action on Thursday, when they travel to Huxley to take on the Ballard Bombers in Class 4A, Region 2 first round action at Gary Creasman Field, with first pitch at 7 PM on AM 1570/FM 99.1 KZWC or online at kqradio.com.
