JEWELL, Ia. — The South Hamilton Hawks softball team returned to action on Monday night, as they hosted their rivals in the South Hardin Tigers in the first round of Class 2A, Region 1 at the Mike Penning Athletic Complex. South Hamilton entered with a record of 9-21, while South Hardin entered at 1-22.
After a scoreless first, South Hardin put up 2 runs in the 2nd to take an early 2-0 lead, but South Hamilton answered with 4 runs in the bottom half off an Allie Neuberger RBI single, an Ellie Beaune RBI single, a wild pitch and a passed ball to put the Hawks ahead 4-2. South Hamilton would then score 4 runs in the 3rd on a Jill Hesse RBI groundout, an Ellie Beaune 2-run RBI single and an Emma Lammers RBI double, before the Hawks put up 3 more runs in the 4th on a 2-run error and a passed ball as South Hamilton took an 11-2 lead. South Hardin would score 2 runs in the 5th and a run in the 7th before South Hamilton closed out an 11-5 victory.
Emma Lammers picked up the win, allowing 5 runs (4 earned) on 9 hits and struck out 2, as Lammers also went 1-for-3 with an RBI double. Ellie Beaune went 2-for-4 with 3 RBI, while Dallace Oberender was 0-for-1 with 2 RBI.
South Hamilton softball advances to the Class 2A, Region 1 quarterfinals to face #2 Grand View Christian at Des Moines Hoover High School on Wednesday night, with first pitch at 7 PM on 95.7 KQWC or streaming online at kqradio.com.
