Webster City baseball clinches share of NCC Title with doubleheader sweep of Iowa Falls-Alden

WEBSTER CITY, Ia. — The Webster City Lynx baseball team returned to action on Monday morning, as they hosted the Iowa Falls-Alden Cadets for a North Central Conference doubleheader at Webster City High School. Webster City entered at 19-8, while Iowa Falls-Alden entered at 8-16.

Game 1 was scoreless through the first inning and a half, before Webster City got on the board with a Syrus Willard RBI groundout, as Iowa Falls answered with a run in the top of the 3rd to tie the game at 1-1. Webster City would answer in the bottom half with 2 runs off a Carter Mickelson sac fly and a Kaleb Hansen RBI single to take a 3-1 lead. The Lynx added a run in the 5th off a Kaleb Hansen RBI groundout to go up 4-1, as IF-A added a run in the 6th, but couldn’t cut it any closer for a 4-2 Lynx win.

Matt Tesdahl was the winning pitcher, going 4 innings and allowing 1 run off 4 hits and striking out 4, as Carter Mickelson picked up the save by pitching 3 innings and allowing 1 run (0 earned) off 1 hit and striking out 5. Kaleb Hansen would go 2-for-3 with 2 RBI on the day.

Game 2 saw Webster City start off with a run in the 1st on a Jaxon Griffith steal of home, before adding another run in the 2nd on a Braylon Dyvig RBI single to put the Lynx up 2-0. Webster City then added 3 runs in the 5th off a Kaleb Hansen RBI single, an Aiden Hrnicek RBI single and a balk as the Lynx went up 5-0. IF-A plated a run in the 7th, but were shut down from there for a 5-1 Lynx victory, giving Webster City a share of their 4th North Central Conference championship in the decade.

Braylon Dyvig was the winning pitcher, taking a no-hitter into the 7th and finishing with 1 run (0 earned) off 2 hits and striking out 11. Dyvig also went 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Kaleb Hansen and Aiden Hrnicek each went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Webster City baseball returns to action on Tuesday, as they travel to Fort Dodge to take on the Dodgers at Ed McNeil Field, with first pitch at 7 PM on AM 1570/FM 99.1 KZWC or streaming online at kqradio.com.
