BELMOND, Ia. — The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowgirls softball team returned to action on Monday night, as they made the short trip north on Highway 69 to take on the Belmond-Klemme Broncos in the first round of Class 2A, Region 1 at Belmond-Klemme High School. CGD entered with a record of 3-20, while Belmond-Klemme entered at 15-12.
Belmond-Klemme would put up 3 runs in the first, followed by 3 runs each in the 2nd inning and 3rd inning, before plating a run in the bottom of the 4th as the Broncos made quick work of the Cowgirls in a 10-0, 4-inning win.
Kinlee Nail took the loss in the circle, allowing 10 runs (2 earned) on 8 hits and struck out 6, as Vanessa Ruiz had the lone hit for the Cowgirls with a double in the 2nd inning.
Belmond-Klemme advances to face the West Marshall Trojans in the quarterfinal round of Class 2A, Region 1 in State Center on Wednesday at 7 PM. Clarion-Goldfield-Dows’s season ends with a record of 3-21.
