ROLAND, Ia. — The Roland-Story Norsemen softball team returned to action on Monday night, as they hosted the Clarksville Indians in non-conference action at Bill Hennessy Field in Roland. Roland-Story entered with a record of 21-7 and ranked #13 in Class 3A, while Clarksville entered at 21-6 and ranked #2 in Class 1A.
Clarksville opened scoring with a run in the top of the 1st, before adding a run in the 3rd as the Indians held an early 2-0 lead. Roland-Story then answered in the 4th with Keely Oberender scoring on passed ball, before the Norsemen plated 2 runs in the 5th on a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch and a passed ball as Roland-Story took a 3-2 lead. The Norsemen added onto the lead with an Evelyn Carlson solo home run in the 6th to put the Norsemen up 4-2, as Clarksville rallied to tie the game in the 7th at 4-4. The Norsemen, once again, lived up to their clutch reputation as a Keely Oberender RBI double in the 7th scored Cece Doyle to earn a 5-4, walk-off victory.
Miley Geise picked up the win in the circle, going 7 innings and allowing 4 runs (3 earned) on 6 hits and struck out 8. Keely Oberender went 1-for-2 with 2 RBI and a double, while Miley Geise finished 3-for-4 on the day.
Roland-Story softball returns to action on Tuesday, as they travel to Huxley to take on the Ballard Bombers in non-conference action at Gary Creasman Field in Huxley, with first pitch at 7 PM.
