(3A) #13 Roland-Story softball downs South Hamilton in HOIAC finale, 9-1

JEWELL, Ia. — The Roland-Story Norsemen and South Hamilton Hawks softball teams returned to action on Wednesday night, as they two long-time rivals faced one another in Heart of Iowa Conference action at the Mike Penning Athletic Complex. Roland-Story entered at 20-7 and ranked 13th in Class 3A, while South Hamilton entered at 9-20.

Roland-Story would pounce on the Hawks early with 4 runs in the 1st, behind a Miley Geise 3-run home run and a Keely Oberender RBI groundout to put the Norsemen ahead 4-0. The Norsemen added onto the lead in the 3rd on a Klaire Krausman 2-run home run and a Maddie Berggren RBI single, before scoring 2 more runs in the 4th on a Miley Geise RBI double and a Klaire Krausman RBI single put Roland-Story ahead 9-0. South Hamilton would score a run in the 5th on an Adey Trask RBI single, but couldn’t come any closer in a 9-1, 5-inning loss.

Miley Geise picked up the win, going 5 innings and allowed 1 run on 4 hits and struck out 8. Geise would also 3-for-4 with a home run, double and 4 RBI, while Klaire Krausman went 3-for-3 with a home run and 3 RBI.

Jill Hesse took the loss in the circle, going 4 innings and allowing 9 runs (6 earned) on 10 hits. Adey Trask would go 1-for-3 with an RBI, while Emma Lammers went 1-for-2 with a double.

Roland-Story softball returns to action on Monday, when they host the (1A) #2 Clarksville Indians in non-conference action at Bill Hennessy Field in Roland, with first pitch at 7:30 PM. South Hamilton softball returns to action on Monday, when they host the South Hardin Tigers in the first round of Class 2A, Region 1 action, with first pitch at 7 PM on 95.7 KQWC or streaming online at kqradio.com.
