INDIANOLA, Ia. — The Roland-Story Norsemen baseball team returned to action on Wednesday night, as they made the trip down to Indianola to take on the Lenox Tigers in a non-conference doubleheader at McBride Field on the campus of Simpson College. Roland-Story entered with a record of 32-3 and ranked #2 in Class 2A, while Lenox entered with a record of 16-8.
Roland-Story was quick on the board with 5 runs in the first off an error, back-to-back passed balls, a Derek Acevedo RBI ground out and a 3rd passed ball to put the Norsemen ahead 5-0. The Norsemen added a run in the 2nd on a Chance Georgius sac fly, before adding 5 more runs in the 3rd on a Jake Knoll RBI single, a bases-loaded walk, a Colin Willis 2-run RBI single and a Hunter Hill sac fly as the Norsemen led 11-1. Lenox added a run in the 5th, but Roland-Story put up 2 runs in the 6th on a Cael Faber sac fly and a Colin Willis RBI single to help Roland-Story cap a 13-2 victory.
Wyatt Ramus was the winning pitcher, going 6 innings and allowing 2 runs (0 earned) on 3 hits and struck out 9. Colin Willis went 3-for-4 with 3 RBI, while Jake Knoll was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Game 2 followed as Roland-Story started with a run in the 1st off a passed ball, before Lenox tied the game in the 3rd at 1-1. Roland-Story then took advantage in the 5th with 4 runs on a Cael Faber sac fly, a Colin Willis 2-run RBI double and a Chance Georgius sac fly to put the Norsemen ahead 5-1. Roland-Story would then add a run in the 6th on a Reece Blaisdell RBI single, before adding 2 more runs in the 7th on a Colin Willis RBI single and a Hunter Hill sac fly as Roland-Story capped an 8-1 victory and a sweep.
Hunter Hill picked up the win on the mound, going 4 innings and allowing 1 run (0 earned) on 1 hit and struck out 5, as Reece Blaisdell picked up his 4th save of the year, going 3 innings with no hits and 5 strikeouts. Colin Willis would go 2-for-2 with a double and 3 RBI.
Roland-Story baseball returns to action on Tuesday, when they host the winner of South Hamilton and Ogden in the 2nd round of Class 2A, Substate 2 at Norsemen Field, with first pitch at 7 PM.
