Clarion-Goldfield-Dows softball holds off Garner-Hayfield-Ventura, 6-3

CLARION, Ia. — The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowgirls softball team returned to action on Tuesday night, as they hosted the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura Cardinals in non-conference action at CGD High School. CGD entered with a record 2-19, while GHV entered at 8-17.

After a scoreless first inning, CGD got on the board with 3 runs in the 2nd on a Vanessa Ruiz 2-run RBI double and a Kayla Hasty RBI groundout to put the Cowgirls ahead 3-0. GHV would add a run in the 3rd, but CGD answered with 3 runs in the bottom half on 2 passed balls and a Vanessa Ruiz RBI groundout to put the Cowgirls ahead 6-1. GHV would plate 2 runs in the top of 7th, but couldn’t finish the comeback as CGD held on for a 6-3 victory.

Kinlee Nail pitched the complete game victory, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits and striking out 5. Vanessa Ruiz went 1-for-3 with a double and 3 RBI, while Kayla Hasty was 0-for-3 with an RBI.

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows softball returns to action on Wednesday night, as they travel to Fort Dodge to take on St. Edmond in North Central Conference action at Harlan Rogers Sports Complex, with first pitch at 5:30 PM.
