Clarion-Goldfield-Dows baseball shuts out Garner-Hayfield-Ventura, 9-0

CLARION, Ia. — The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowboys baseball team returned to action on Tuesday night, as they hosted the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura Cardinals in non-conference action at Clarion-Goldfield-Dows High School. The Cowboys entered with a record of 9-17, while the Cardinals entered at 11-11.

CGD would strike in the first inning on a wild pitch, a Huxley Lingenfelter RBI single and an error to put the Cowboys ahead 3-0, before extending the lead in the 3rd off a wild pitch to extend the lead to 4-0 after 3 innings. The Cowboys then scored twice in the 4th on a Jacob Ruba RBI single and a Paxton Lingenfelter RBI fielder’s choice, before adding a run in the 5th on a Chaz Lane RBI single, as a Charlie Campbell 2-run RBI triple in the 6th put the finishing touches on a 9-0, shutout victory for the Cowboys.

Drew Smith was the winning pitcher, going 3.1 innings and allowing no runs on 3 hits and striking out 1. Charlie Campbell would go 2-for-3 with 2 triples and 2 RBI, while Ethan Hasty was 2-for-3 with 3 runs scored.

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows baseball returns to action on Friday, when they travel to Garner to take on the Central Springs Panthers in the first round of their Class 2A, Substate 2 bracket, with first pitch at 5 PM.
