BELMOND, Ia. — The South Hamilton Hawks softball team returned to action on Thursday evening, as they made the trip north on Highway 69 to take on the Belmond-Klemme Broncos in non-conference action at Blair Field. South Hamilton entered with a record of 6-18, while Belmond-Klemme entered at 12-7.
Belmond-Klemme was first on the board with 2 runs in the first, as South Hamilton would wait until the 3rd to respond with an Ellie Beaune RBI triple and an Emma Lammers RBI groundout to tie the game at 2-2. The Broncos took the lead in the 4th at 3-2, before South Hamilton rallied in the 5th with four runs from an Emma Lammers bases-clearing double and a Claire Hewitt RBI groundout as the Hawks took a 6-3 lead. Belmond-Klemme plated a run in the 7th, but couldn’t complete a comeback as the Hawks held for a 6-4 victory.
Emma Lammers picked up the win in the circle, going 7 innings and allowing 4 runs (1 earned) on 5 hits and struck out 5, while also going 2-for-4 with a double and 4 RBI. Ellie Beaune would go 2-for-3 with an RBI triple.
South Hamilton softball returns to action on Friday, when they host the Perry Jayettes in Heart of Iowa Conference action at the Mike Penning Athletic Complex, with first pitch at 6 PM.
