(2A) #2 Roland-Story baseball rallies to down (2A) #8 Grundy Center, 11-6

GRUNDY CENTER, Ia. — The Roland-Story Norsemen baseball team returned to action on Thursday, as they made the trip east on Highway 20 to take on the Grundy Center Spartans in non-conference action at the George Wilhelm Baseball Complex. Roland-Story entered with a record of 26-1 and ranked #2 in Class 2A, while Grundy Center entered at 12-3 and ranked #8 in Class 2A.

Grundy Center struck the iron early, as the Spartans put up 2 runs each in the 1st and 2nd innings to put Grundy Center up 4-0. Roland-Story wouldn’t get on the board until the 4th on a Jake Knoll sac fly to cut the score to 4-1, but the Norsemen opened things up in the 5th with a 5-run frame on a Cael Faber RBI single, a Chance Georgius RBI single, a Jake Knoll sac fly and a Braden Wallace 2-run RBI single to put the Norsemen ahead 6-4. Roland-Story would add onto their lead in the 6th with 2 runs on an Aiden Frey RBI triple and a Cael Faber sac fly, before adding 3 more runs in the 7th on a Derek Acevedo 2-run RBI single and a Cooper Triggs RBI double, as the Spartans added 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th to cap an 11-6 victory for Roland-Story.

Gavin Griffith picked up the win, going 4 innings and allowing 4 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits and struck out 3. Cael Faber would go 2-for-3 with 2 RBI, while Cooper Triggs went 3-for-4 with an RBI and 3 runs scored.

Roland-Story baseball returns to action on Friday, when they host the PCM Mustangs in their Heart of Iowa Conference finale at Norsemen Field, with first pitch at 7:30 PM.
