EAGLE GROVE, Ia. — The Eagle Grove Eagles baseball team returned to action on Thursday night, as they hosted the Manson-Northwest Webster Cougars in non-conference action at Bruce Rholl Field at Greenwood Park. Eagle Grove entered with a record of 4-14, while Manson-Northwest Webster entered at 5-13.
After a scoreless first, Manson was first on the board with a run in the 2nd, only to rebuffed by two Eagle Grove runs in the bottom of the frame on a Colson Schafer RBI double and a balk to put the Eagles ahead 2-1. Manson reclaimed the lead with 2 runs in the 3rd, only to have Eagle Grove answer with a 5-run third behind an Adrian Whipple solo home run, a Colson Schafer RBI groundout, a Jackson Babcock RBI single and a passed ball as the Eagles led 7-3. A Manson run in the 4th would again be rebuffed by 2 runs in the 4th on a Gavin Pedersen RBI single and a Jace Olson RBI single, before the Eagles scored 2 more runs in the 5th on a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch and a Trenton Robinson Grand Slam to walk things off for a 14-4, 5-inning victory for Eagle Grove.
Will Rudolph picked up the win in relief, pitching 2.1 innings and allowing 1 run on 1 hit and struck out 2. Adrian Whipple would go 3-for-3 with a solo home run and 2 RBI, while Trenton Robinson went 1-for-2 with a grand slam.
Eagle Grove baseball returns to action on Friday, when they travel to Clarion-Goldfield-Dows to take on the Cowboys in non-conference action at CGD High School, with first pitch at 7:30 PM.
