LeGRAND, Ia. — The Roland-Story Norsemen softball team returned to action on Tuesday night, as they made drive east on Highway 30 to take on the East Marshall Mustangs in non-conference action at East Marshall High School. Roland-Story entered with a record of 14-5, while East Marshall entered at 15-4 and ranked #9 in Class 2A.
It would be a pitchers duel throughout much of the contest, as the first 5 innings would go scoreless, before a Brookelyn Jondle RBI double put the Norse ahead 1-0 in the top of the 6th. East Marshall answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the frame to tie at 1-1, as the contest would go into extra innings. It would not be until the top of the 9th that Roland-Story finally broke the tie, taking the lead on a Klaire Krausman RBI single to go up 2-1, before freshman Ali Johnson hit her first career home run on a 3-run shot to left to put Roland-Story ahead 5-1, as the Norse closed out a 5-1 victory.
Miley Geise picked up the win in relief, allowing no runs on 1 hit and struck out 5 in 3.2 innings. Ali Johnson would go 1-for-3 with her 3-run home run, as Brookelyn Jondle went 2-for-4 with an RBI double.
