DES MOINES, Ia. — The Roland-Story Norsemen baseball team returned to action on Tuesday evening, as they made the trip to Des Moines to take on the Grand View Christian Thunder in Heart of Iowa Conference action at Hoover High School. Roland-Story entered at 25-1 and ranked #2 in Class 2A, while GVC entered at 11-8.
Roland-Story wouldn’t waste time in getting the offense going, plating 3 runs in the first off a Cael Faber RBI single, a Chance Georgius RBI double and a Braden Wallace RBI ground out to put the Norsemen ahead 3-0. Roland-Story would add a run in the 2nd on an Aiden Frey RBI ground out, followed by 2 runs in the 3rd on a Braden Wallace RBI ground out and a Derek Acevedo RBI single to put the Norsemen up 6-0, as GVC plated 2 runs in the 4th to make it 6-2. Roland-Story then blew the lid off the game in the 5th with 8 runs off a Derek Acevedo RBI fielder’s choice, a bases-loaded hit by pitch, a Cooper Triggs sac fly, an Aiden Frey RBI fielder’s choice, a Cael Faber sac fly, a wild pitch and a Jake Knoll 2-run RBI single, as the Norsemen coasted to a 14-2, 5-inning victory.
Reece Blaisdell picked up the win on the mound, going all 5 innings and allowing 2 runs on 3 hits and striking out 7. Jake Knoll would go 3-for-4 with 2 RBI, as Cael Faber went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI.
Roland-Story baseball returns to action on Thursday, when they travel to Grundy Center to take on the 7th-ranked Spartans in non-conference action, with first pitch at 7:30 PM.
