Roland-Story softball uses clutch hitting to down Greene County, 7-5

JEFFERSON, Ia. — The Roland-Story Norsemen softball team returned to action on Monday night, as they made the trip west to take on the Greene County Rams in Heart of Iowa Conference action at the Jefferson Softball Park. Roland-Story entered at 13-5, while Greene County entered at 9-9.

After a scoreless first, Roland-Story plated 5 runs in the 2nd off a Lauren Crabbs RBI single, an error, a passed ball, a Cece Doyle RBI single and an Evelyn Carlson steal of home as the Norsemen took a 5-0 lead. That lead would last into the bottom of the 4th as Greene County rallied with a 5-run frame to tie the game at 5-5. The tie score lasted into the 7th, as Roland-Story was the ones to come up clutch as 8th-grader Klaire Krausman dropped a looper into shallow center for a 2-run RBI single as the Norsemen took a 7-5 lead, before closing out a 7-5 win.

Cece Doyle picked up the win in relief, allowing no runs on 2 hits and striking out 5. Klaire Krausman went 1-for-4 with a 2-run RBI single, while Lauren Crabbs went 1-for-3 with an RBI and 2 runs scored.

Roland-Story softball returns to action on Tuesday, when they travel to LeGrand to take on the (2A) #9 East Marshall Mustangs in non-conference action at East Marshall High School, with first pitch at 7 PM.
