One person is dead,one injured after a Monday afternoon crash in rural Boone County.

The Iowa State Patrol investigated an accident Monday afternoon that claimed the life of an Ames resident and injured the driver of an SUV from Des Moines. The accident happened northeast of Boone on 190th Street. Reportedly a westbound 2022 model Jeep Compass driven by Bailey Jo Craven of Des Moines was entering the oncoming lane and was in the path of an eastbound 2020 model Kenworth semi operated by Wyatt Corbin of Boone. The Craven SUV struck the Corbin semi head on. The Craven SUV came to rest in the south ditch on the driver’s side while Corbin semi came to rest jack knifed in the roadway blocking both lanes of traffic. A passenger in the Craven SUV,37-year-old Tristan Nelson of Ames was pronounced dead at the accident scene while Craven was transported to Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines by Life Flight for treatment. Corbin escaped injury in the Monday afternoon accident. The Boone County Sherrif’s Department assisted the Iowa State Patrol at the accident scene.
