WEBSTER CITY, Ia. — The Webster City Lynx softball team returned to action on Thursday night, as they hosted the Iowa Falls-Alden Cadets in North Central Conference action at Webster City High School. The Lynx entered at 4-6, while Iowa Falls-Alden entered at 4-5.
Webster City was first on the board, scoring 2 runs in the first off a passed ball and a Morgan Hackbarth RBI single as the Lynx took a 2-0 lead. IF-A wouldn’t answer until the 4th, when they scored on an RBI single, before tying the game in the 5th on another RBI single to make it 2-2. The game would go into extra-innings as IF-A took the lead in the top of the 8th on a 2-run RBI double to put the Cadets ahead 4-2. Webster City would rally, with Morgan Tempel leading off with a double, followed by Amanda Lahr tying the game on a 2-run home run to left field to make it 4-4. Briley VanDeer would then be the hero, walking it off on an RBI fielder’s choice, as Morgan Hackbarth scored to give the Lynx a 5-4, 8-inning victory.
Jakaela Cherry picked up the win in the circle, pitching all 8 innings and allowing 4 runs (3 earned) on 8 hits and striking out 7. Morgan Hackbarth would go 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and an RBI, as Amanda Lahr was 1-for-4 with a 2-run home run.
Webster City softball returns to action on Friday night, when they host the (4A) #1 Carlisle Wildcats to open the 2026 Dave Hilton Classic, with first pitch at 7:15 PM at Webster City High School.
