JEWELL, Ia. — The South Hamilton Hawks softball team returned to action on Thursday night, as they hosted the Nevada Cubs in Heart of Iowa Conference action at the Mike Penning Athletic Complex. South Hamilton entered at 2-9, while Nevada entered at 7-6.
Nevada came out of the gates scorching hot, scoring 5 runs in the top of the first, only to be rebuffed by a 3-run bottom of the frame from South Hamilton, with the Hawks scoring on an Emma Lammers RBI double, and Adey Trask RBI single and an Emma Ammerman RBI single to make it 5-3. Nevada would add a run in the 2nd, but South Hamilton answered in the bottom of the frame with an Adey Trask RBI double and a Claire Hewitt RBI single to cut the score to 6-5. South Hamilton would tie the game in the 4th with an Emma Lammers RBI single at 6-6, before Nevada reclaimed the lead in the 6th and 7-6. South Hamilton then took the lead in the bottom of the 6th on an Adey Trask 2-run RBI double, as the Hawks thwarted the Cubs in the 7th for an 8-7 victory.
Jill Hesse picked up the win in the circle, going all 7 innings and allowing 7 runs on 10 hits and struck out 2. Adey Trask had a big day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI, as Emma Lammers went 2-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI.
South Hamilton softball returns to action on Friday, when they compete in the OABCIG Tournament over in Ida Grove, beginning at 6:15 PM.
