WEBSTER CITY, Ia. — The Webster City Lynx softball team returned to action on Wednesday night, as they hosted the Hampton-Dumont-CAL Bulldogs in North Central Conference action at Webster City High School. Webster City entered at 3-6, while HD-CAL entered at 3-3.
HD-CAL got things started in the first with a run on a passed ball to take a 1-0 lead, a lead that lasted until 5th inning when Webster City erupted for 5 runs off an Alivia Burns RBI fielder’s choice, a Jakaela Cherry RBI single, a Morgan Tempel RBI single and a Morgan Hackbarth 2-run RBI single as the Lynx led 5-1. HD-CAL would respond in the 6th, scoring 4 runs in the frame to tie the game at 5-5, as the Bulldogs took the lead on a 2-run RBI single in the 7th at 7-5. Webster City would deliberately work themselves into position in the 7th, then scoring on a Briley VanDeer RBI single, an error, and finally an Alivia Burns infield RBI single scored the winning run in an 8-7, walk-off victory.
Jakaela Cherry was the winning pitcher in relief, allowing 4 runs (2 earned) on 4 hits and struck out 3, as Briley VanDeer went 5 innings and allowed 3 runs (1 earned) on 2 hits and struck out 6. Morgan Hackbarth would got 3-for-4 with 2 RBI, as Morgan Tempel was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Webster City softball returns to action on Thursday night, as they host the Iowa Falls-Alden Cadets in North Central Conference action at Webster City High School, with first pitch at 7:30 PM on 95.7 KQWC or streaming online at kqradio.com.
