ROLAND, Ia. — The Roland-Story Norsemen softball team returned to action on Tuesday night, as they hosted the Nevada Cubs in Heart of Iowa Conference action at Bill Hennessy Field in Roland. Roland-Story entered with a record of 5-3, while Nevada entered at 7-5.
Nevada would start the game off with a bang on a Jorie Hillman lead-off home run to take an early 1-0 lead, as the Cubs added 2 more runs in the 4th to take a 3-0 lead. Roland-Story would then respond in the bottom of the 4th with 4 runs, with an Ali Johnson RBI 2-run RBI double, an Evelyn Carlson RBI double and a Cece Doyle RBI single to take a 4-3 lead. The Norsemen would add onto the lead in the 6th with an Evelyn Carlson RBI triple to take a 5-3 lead, before closing out a 5-3 win.
Cece Doyle was the winning pitcher, going 4 innings and allowing 3 runs off 6 hits and striking out 2, as Miley Geise relieved her and pitched 3 hitless innings with 1 strikeout. Evelyn Carlson had the top day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a single, double and triple with 2 RBI, as Ali Johnson went 1-for-3 with a 2-run RBI double.
Roland-Story softball returns to action on Wednesday, when they host the Grand View Christian Thunder in Heart of Iowa Conference action at Bill Hennessy Field, with first pitch at 7:30 PM.
