Clarion-Goldfield-Dows baseball dominates Belmond-Klemme in 5 innings, 11-1

CLARION, Ia. — The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowboys baseball team returned to action on Tuesday night, as they hosted the Belmond-Klemme Broncos in non-conference action at Clarion-Goldfield-Dows High School. The Cowboys entered at 5-8, as the Broncos entered at 2-6.

CGD would strike early and often, scoring a run in the first off an error, followed by scoring 3 runs in the 2nd off an error, a wild pitch and a bases-loaded walk to put the Cowboys up 4-0. Belmond-Klemme plated a run in the 3rd, but were rebuffed by 2 runs in the 3rd from the Cowboys on a Kohen Langfitt RBI ground out and a bases-loaded walk as CGD extended the lead to 6-1. The Cowboys continued to grow the lead with 3 runs in the 4th on a Jacob Ruba sac fly, a Kohen Langfitt RBI groundout and a Ryland Morgan steal of home; with 2 more runs scoring in the 5th on a Huxley Lingenfelter RBI triple and an error that ended the game at 11-1 in 5 innings.

Caleb Sweeney was the winning pitcher, going all 5 innings and allowing 1 run on 3 hits and striking out 5. Huxley Lingenfelter would go 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI, while Kohen Langfitt was 0-for-3, but drove in 2 runs.

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows baseball returns to action on Thursday, when they travel to Dayton to take on the Southeast Valley Jaguars in non-conference action with first pitch at 7:30 PM.
