EAGLE GROVE, Ia. — The Eagle Grove Eagles softball team returned to action on Monday night, as they hosted the Bishop Garrigan Golden Bears in Top of Iowa West action at Greenwood Park. Eagle Grove entered with a record of 4-2, while Bishop Garrigan entered at 1-2.
Eagle Grove would strike first in the 1st inning, scoring 2 runs on 2 separate errors, as Garrigan would respond with a run in the 2nd and 2 runs in each in 3rd, 4th and 5th innings to take a commanding 7-2 lead. From there, Eagle Grove mounted a rally, starting with 2 runs in the 6th off a Brenna Grandgeorge sac fly and a wild pitch to make it 7-4. In the 7th, the Eagles would score on a passed ball, a Lily Locke RBI single, before an Ellie Lenning 2-run RBI double to center field brought home the winning run in an 8-7, come-from-behind victory.
Johanna Flores-Baez picked up the win, starting in place of Mya Morgan, going all 7 innings and allowing 7 runs (1 earned) on 3 hits and struck out 3, overcoming 8 walks and 6 Eagles errors. Ellie Lenning went 1-for-3 with her walk-off 2 run RBI double, as Lilly Locke went 2-for-4 with an RBI and 3 runs scored.
Eagle Grove softball returns to action on Wednesday, when they travel to Lake Mills to take on the Bulldogs in Top of Iowa West action, with first pitch at 6 PM.
