Clarion-Goldfield-Dows baseball shuts out West Bend-Mallard on the road, 5-0

GILMORE CITY, Ia. — The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowboys baseball team returned to action on Thursday night, as they made the trip to far western Humboldt County to take on the West Bend-Mallard Wolverines in non-conference action at the Gilmore City Baseball Field. CGD entered with a record of 1-4, while West Bend-Mallard entered at 1-1.

CGD wouldn’t waste time in starting the scoring, putting up 3 runs on a West Bend-Mallard error, and 2 wild pitches to take a 3-0 lead. The Cowboys would add onto their lead in the 3rd, scoring off another Wolverine error and a Booker Lingenfelter RBI single to put the Cowboys ahead 5-0. CGD’s arms would keep the Wolverines off the scoreboard throughout the contest en route to a 5-0 shutout victory.

Ethan Hasty was the winning pitcher, going 6 innings and allowing 0 runs on 5 hits and striking out 6. Hasty also went 1-for-4 with an RBI, while Booker Lingenfelter went 1-for-2 with an RBI.

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows baseball returns to action on Friday, when they travel to Buffalo Center to take on the North Iowa Bison in non-conference action, with first pitch at 7:30 PM.
