POCAHONTAS, Ia. — The Roland-Story Norsemen baseball team returned to action on Thursday evening, as they made the trip into northwest Iowa to take on the Pocahontas Area Indians at the PAC Athletic Complex. Roland-Story entered at 8-0 and ranked #3 in 2A, as Pocahontas Area entered at 2-1.
Roland-Story struck first with a Cael Faber RBI single in the 1st, but Pocahontas Area responded with a 6-run bottom of the frame to take a 6-1 lead. Roland-Story rallied in the 2nd scoring runs off 2 errors, a passed ball and a Colin Willis RBI groundout to make the score 6-5, but Pocahontas would add on to their lead in the 2nd with 4 more runs, followed by a 2-run home run in the 3rd to take a 12-5 lead. The Norsemen would dig in and begin to rally, scoring 4 runs in the 4th off an Aiden Frey RBI single, an RBI double play, a Braden Wallace RBI single and a Gavin Jeter RBI single to make it 12-9. Roland-Story tied it in the 6th with a Chance Georgius solo home run and a Ryan Kepley 2-run RBI single to make it 12-12, as the Norsemen took the lead in the 7th off a passed ball and a Braden Wallace RBI single before locking down a 14-12 victory.
Chance Georgius picked up the win in relief, allowing no runs on no hits in an inning of work, as Reece Blaisdell recorded his 2nd save of the year. Chance Georgius went 1-for-2 with a home run and 2 walks, while Braden Wallace went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI.
Game 2 saw Roland-Story jump on the Indians early putting up 5 runs in the 1st off a Colin Willis RBI groundout, a Chance Georgius RBI single, a Jake Knoll RBI double and an error to take a 5-1 lead after one. Pocahontas added a run in the 2nd, before the Norsemen scored 4 more runs in the 4th off an error, a Jake Knoll RBI triple, a Braden Wallace RBI single and a Cooper Triggs steal of home to take a 9-2 lead. Roland-Story added on to their lead in the 6th off an Aiden Frey 2-run RBI single to make it 11-2, before Pocahontas made a furious 6-run rally, but could not complete the comeback in an 11-8 win for the Norsemen.
Reece Blaisdell was the winning pitcher, working 5 innings and allowing 2 runs on 5 hits and striking out 9. Jake Knoll would go 2-for-5 with a double, triple and 2 RBI, while Aiden Frey went 2-for-5 with 2 RBI.
Roland-Story baseball returns to action on Friday, when they host the South Hamilton Hawks in Heart of Iowa Conference action at Norsemen Field, with first pitch at 7:30 PM.
