CARROLL, Ia. — The Webster City Lynx softball team opened their 2026 softball season on Tuesday evening, as they made the trip to western Iowa to take on the Carroll Tigers in non-conference action at the Carroll Softball Stadium.
Things started slowly for the Lynx on Tuesday, as Carroll put up 2 runs in the bottom of the first off a couple of Lynx errors, but Webster City would get on the board in the 3rd inning on an Izzy Weinschenk sac fly to make it 2-1. The Tigers added a run in the 4th to take a 3-1 lead, before the Lynx tied the game in the 5th on a 2-run RBI single from Hayden McCoy to make it 3-3. Webster City then took the lead in the 6th on a Jaylyn Bahrenfuss RBI double to put the Lynx ahead 4-3. However, Carroll would tie the game in the bottom of the 6th, before walking it off in the 7th for a 5-4 victory.
Briley VanDeer picked up the loss in the circle despite pitching well, allowing 5 runs (2 earned) on 6 hits and struck out 8. Hayden McCoy went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI, while Amanda Lahr went 2-for-3 with a double.
Webster City softball returns to action on Friday, when they host the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowgirls in North Central Conference action at Webster City High School, with first pitch at 7:30 PM.
