Webster City baseball sweeps NCC doubleheader from St. Edmond

WEBSTER CITY, Ia. — The Webster City Lynx baseball team returned to action on Tuesday evening, as they hosted the St. Edmond Gaels in North Central Conference action at Webster City High School. The Lynx entered with a record of 6-0, as the Gaels entered at 1-2.

After a scoreless first, St. Edmond was first on the board with a run off a wild pitch, as the Gaels took a 1-0 lead. Webster City responded in the 3rd, as Matt Tesdahl drove in a run on an RBI single to tie the game at 1-1, as the Lynx then took the lead on an Alex Staley RBI single in the 4th, putting Webster City up 2-1. The Lynx added on to their lead in the 5th with an Aiden Hrnicek 2-run RBI single, as Webster City’s pitching staff shutdown the Gaels the rest of the way in a 4-1 victory.

Braylon Dyvig picked up the win on the mound, pitching 6.2 innings and allowing 1 run (0 earned) off of 2 hits and striking out 8, as Carter Mickelson picked up the 1-out save. Matt Tesdahl would go 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, while Aiden Hrnicek went 1-for-1 with a 2-run RBI single and 2 walks.

Game 2 would start similarly to Game 1, with the first two innings going scoreless. However, Webster City’s bats roared to life in the 3rd inning, putting up 5 runs off an error, a Matt Tesdahl 2-run RBI double, a Syrus Willard RBI single and a Gordon Bargfrede RBI groundout as the Lynx took a 5-0 lead. Following a scoreless 4th and 5th, Webster City added 3 more runs off a Braylon Dyvig sac fly, a Matt Tesdahl RBI double and a Kaleb Hansen RBI single to take an 8-0 lead, and an eventual 8-0 win.

Matt Tesdahl would pitch a complete game, 2-hit shutout, striking out 13 batters, while also going 2-for-4 at the plate with 2 doubles and 3 RBI, while Syrus Willard went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Webster City baseball returns to action on Friday, when they travel to Newell-Fonda to take on the Mustangs in non-conference action with first pitch at 7:30 PM.
