DES MOINES, Ia. — The Roland-Story Norsemen softball team opened their 2026 season on Tuesday evening, as they made the trip down to the state capital to take on the Grand View Christian Thunder in Heart of Iowa Conference action at Des Moines Hoover High School.
Tuesday’s first two innings would be scoreless, as Roland-Story was on the board first with a Brookelyn Jondle RBI single in the 3rd, only to be rebuffed by a sac fly in the bottom of the frame to make the score 1-1. Roland-Story then took the lead in the 5th on RBI doubles from Brookelyn Jondle and Keely Oberender to lead 3-1, but GVC grabbed the lead back in the 5th with 4 runs to take a 5-3 lead. The Thunder then poured on more offense in the 6th, putting up 5 more runs to eventually cap a 10-3 win.
Miley Geise took the loss in the circle, allowing 5 runs (2 earned) on 1 hit and striking out 2, while Cece Doyle pitched 2 innings in relief and allowed 5 runs (3 earned) on 4 hits and struck out 2. Brookelyn Jondle had the top day at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI, as the Norsemen defense accumulated 5 errors in the contest.
Roland-Story softball returns to action on Wednesday, when they travel to Dallas County to take on the Perry Jayettes in Heart of Iowa Conference action with first pitch at 6 PM.
