STORY CITY, Ia. — The Roland-Story Norsemen baseball team returned to action on Tuesday evening, as they hosted the Southeast Valley Jaguars for a non-conference doubleheader at Norsemen Field. The Norsemen entered with a record of 4-0, as Southeast Valley was in their season-opener.
Roland-Story would score 5 runs in the top of the first before registering a hit with 4 bases-l0aded walks and a hit-by-pitch, before Cael Faber scored a 2-run RBI single, followed by a Colin Willis RBI double as the Norsemen led 8-0 after the first. The lead would grow more in the 2nd with 5 bases-loaded walks, a Braden Wallace RBI groundout and a Chance Georgius RBI single as the Norsemen led 15-0. That lead would hold until the mercy-rule came into effect for a 15-0, 4-inning victory.
Cael Faber pitched all 4 innings, allowing 0 runs on 2 hits and striking out 8, as Colin Willis went 1-for-1 with a double and 2 RBI, while Chance Georgius went 2-for-2 with a double and 2 RBI.
Game 2 saw Southeast Valley score first on an RBI ground out, before the Norsemen put up 3 runs on sac flies from Chance Georgius and Jake Knoll, as well as a run scoring on a wild pitch to put Roland-Story ahead 3-1. The Norsemen built onto their lead in the 2nd with a Colin Willis 2-run RBI double, a wild pitch and a Southeast Valley balk to put the Norsemen up 7-1. Southeast Valley scored a run off a wild pitch in the 4th, but Roland-Story added 3 more runs in the 4th off a hit-by-pitch, an Aiden Frey sac fly and a Cael Faber RBI groundout to make it 10-2. The Norsemen finished things off in the 5th with a bases-loaded walk and a hit-by-pitch to walk off a 12-2, 5-inning victory.
Gavin Griffith picked up the win in the circle, allowing 2 runs (0 earned) on 2 hits and striking out 9 in 5 innings. Colin Willis went 2-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI, while Aiden Frey, Cael Faber, Chance Georgius, Jake Knoll, Braden Wallace, Cooper Triggs and Gavin Jeter all contributed RBI as well.
Roland-Story baseball returns to action on Wednesday night, as they host the South Hardin Tigers for a non-conference doubleheader at Norsemen Field in Story City, with first pitch slated for 5:30 PM.
