Roland-Story, South Hamilton, Clarion-Goldfield-Dows and Eagle Grove girls track compete in 2A State Qualifying Meet in Story City

STORY CITY, Ia. — The Roland-Story Norse, South Hamilton Hawks, Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowgirls and Eagle Grove Eagles track teams returned to action on Thursday afternoon, as Roland-Story hosted a Class 2A State Qualifying Meet at Dallas Kray Track. The Norse, Hawks, Cowgirls and Eagles were joined by Greene County, Grundy Center, Iowa Falls-Alden, Ogden, South Hardin, Van Meter, West Marshall and Woodward-Granger.

Roland-Story would place 3rd in a hotly-contested meet with a total of 115 points and a number of qualifiers. The first qualifier came in the discus, as Miley Geise won with a career-best throw of 114′ 4″. The Norse then won the shuttle hurdle relay in a 2A-leading time of 1:05.48 with the team of Rechkemmer-Lucas-Jondle-Helgeson, as Maddi Lucas followed later in the night by qualifying for the 400m hurdles in a lifetime-best mark of 1:08.89. Roland-Story also saw likely at-large qualifiers in the 4×800, which placed 4th in a time of 10:14.45 with the team of Lande-Petersen-Long-Larson, while Taylor Rechkemmer likely has a spot in the 100m hurdles, placing 3rd in a time of 16.30 seconds.

South Hamilton would place 8th in the meet with a total of 45 points, as the Hawks saw two auto-qualifiers. The first qualifier was junior Tessa Skartvedt in the shot put, winning by breaking her own school-record with a throw of 38′ 4″, before Dayton Ferrie qualified in the discus with a throw of 108′ 4″. Izzy Swenson would place 3rd in the high jump by clearing 4′ 10″.

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows would place 11th in the meet with 7 points, as Adelynn Howell placed 4th in the high jump by clearing 4′ 10″, while Lea Charlson placed 7th in the discus with a throw of 91′ 6″.

Eagle Grove placed 12th in the meet with 3 points, as the lone placer for the Eagles was sophomore Myka Anderson, who placed 6th in the 400m hurdles in a season-best mark of 1:13.14.

Norse and Hawk athletes who qualified for the state meet will compete at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, beginning Thursday afternoon.
