(2A) #8 Wright County finishes regular season unbeaten with win over Hampton-Dumont-CAL, 2-0

BELMOND, Ia. — The Wright County Broncos boys soccer team returned to action on Thursday evening, as they hosted the Hampton-Dumont-CAL Bulldogs in North Central Conference action at Belmond-Klemme High School. Wright County entered at 12-0-4, while Hampton-Dumont-CAL entered at 5-6-4.

Defenses ruled much of the first half, but Wright County caught a break when a throw in bounced off a HD-CAL defender into the possession of Jerry Hernandez, who broke the scoreless tie in the 25th minute to give the Broncos a 1-0 lead that would last until halftime.

The 2nd half was much of the same story, however Wright County was able to find a breakaway in the 52nd minute, as junior Ruben Guido was able to find the back of the net for a big insurance goal as the Broncos took a 2-0 lead. Wright County would hold that lead for the remained of the contest to cap a 2-0 victory and an unbeaten regular season at 13-0-4.

Wright County boys soccer returns to action on Wednesday, May 27th, when they host the winner of Webster City and Central Iowa United in Class 2A, Substate 2 semifinal action at Belmond-Klemme High School with kickoff at 7 PM.
