Webster City boys soccer shuts out Clear Lake, 2-0

WEBSTER CITY, Ia. — The Webster City Lynx boys soccer team returned to action on Monday evening, as they hosted the Clear Lake Lions in North Central Conference action at Lynx Field. Webster City entered at 7-2-2, as Clear Lake entered at 7-2-3.

Webster City was looking to avenge their early-season loss to the Lions, and made an early statement as Aaron Mendoza scored on a free kick that hit off the cross-bar and caromed in to give the Lynx a 1-0 lead in the 3rd minute. Despite multiple opportunities from Clear Lake in the first half, the Lynx held the 1-0 lead at halftime.

In the 2nd half, Webster City took back control in the opening stanzas, as the Lynx added a major insurance goal in the 49th minute on a highlight-reel goal from David Villelas off an Abasai Ramirez-Carmona assists to put the Lynx ahead 2-0. Webster City’s back row would stymie Clear Lake for the remainder of the match as the Lynx grabbed a 2-0 victory.

Webster City boys soccer returns to action on Tuesday, when they travel to Charles City to take on the Comets in North Central Conference action at Charles City High School, with kickoff at 4:30 PM.
