South Hamilton track and field teams compete in Earlham Co-Ed Meet on Tuesday

EARLHAM, Ia. — The South Hamilton Hawks boys and girls track and field teams returned to action on Tuesday night, as they made the trip south into Madison County to compete in the annual Earlham Co-Ed Meet at Earlham High School. South Hamilton was joined by the host Cardinals, as well as AC/GC, Atlantic, Clarinda, Colfax-Mingo, Coon Rapids-Bayard, Des Moines Christian, Greene County, Nodaway Valley, Ogden, Panorama, Underwood, Van Meter, West Central Valley and Winterset.

South Hamilton’s girls would place 5th in the meet, scoring 66.5 points, as they crowned a meet champion in the girls shot put with junior Tessa Skartvedt winning with a throw of 37′ 11″. Daytona Ferrie would place 2nd in the discus with a throw of 93′ 8″, as Izzy Swenson placed 3rd in the high jump by clearing 4′ 10″. Megan Moline would place 4th in the 400m hurdles in a time of 1:19.98, as the Hawks distance medley placed 5th in a time of 5:00.74 with the team of Van De Pol-Doolittle-Trask-Herrick.

South Hamilton’s boys placed 7th in the meet with 51 points, as the Hawks had a pair of 2nd place finishers, as sophomore Ben Swenson placed 2nd in the shot put with a throw of 46′ 7.75″, while Jesus Garcia placed 2nd in the 3200m run in a time of 10:40.81. Garcia would place 3rd in the 1600m run in a time of 4:55.22, while placing 5th in the 800m run in a time of 2:10.33. The Hawks sprint medley would place 5th in a time of 1:43.70 with the team of Dean-Ziesman-Gelder-Northrop.

South Hamilton track and field returns to action on Thursday, as they travel to Manson to compete in the annual Emily Markert CoEd Relays, beginning at 4:30 PM.
