Wright County boys soccer downs Ballard on the road, 2-1

HUXLEY, Ia. — The Wright County Broncos boys soccer team returned to action on Tuesday night, as they made the drive south on Highway 69 to take on the Ballard Bombers in non-conference action at Rich Strauss Field in Huxley. Wright County entered at 1-0, as Ballard entered at 0-1.

Momentum would swing back and forth early in the match between the Broncos and Bombers, but it was Wright County that would make the early noise, as senior Angel Cortes scored in the 22nd minute to put the Broncos ahead 1-0. It wouldn’t be too long after that the Broncos struck again, this time on a goal from freshman Jorge Luis Guzman in the 28th minute to put Wright County ahead 2-0 at the halftime break.

Ballard would strike early in the 2nd half off a penalty kick to bring the score to 2-1, as the Bombers would have numerous opportunities to tie the game. Ultimately, Wright County’s back end would hold throughout the 2nd half to grab a 2-1 win, securing the first 2-0 start in program history for the Broncos.

Wright County boys soccer returns to action on Thursday, when they travel to Clear Lake to take on the Lions in North Central Conference action at Lions Field, with kickoff at 7:30 PM.
